The NETBIOS traffic does not get broadcast out of the local segment, so you don't get to see the 400 in Network Neighborhood if it's in a different subnet from the one you are in. So you need to play games with IP addresses or host names. TELNET, OTOH, is almost always forwarded through whatever router/switch thingy you have. Like you other ideas, tho'. :-)
