FTP directory format names

I need to change the local directory that an FTP session uses.  I've fount
the lcd command but what is the naming convention to change directories to
/tmp under the root directory of the 400?  I've tried lcd /tmp and lcd tmp
and get the following error:
Could not access library TMP.
