you're blaming the  wrong product.

It's the CAE installer that doesn't recognise Office 2000 (or even Office
XP for that matter) even when it's installed in the exact same location as
Office 97.

Just to set things in the correct perspective.

Ah!!! Thank you!!

this was somehting that was bothring me too.  It is not a Windows 200 issue.
People using OFFICE 97 get the add-in correctly.  For some reason, Office
2000 doesn't pick it up.

Following your directions to manually ut it in the add-in list solved it.
