Maybe you've heard of the difficulties in writing Windows file servers? Or using Kerberos authentication with new versions of Windows? Or Word file formats? All of these are examples of "standards" that Microsoft routinely breaks in order to force upgrades and lock in of their products. Allowing Microsoft to also write the standards for the Web means that those same headaches will exist for all web browsing. There are significant problems associated with allowing Microsoft (or any one company/individual) be the standard setter. Patents and royalties being just some of them. James Rich james@eaerich.com
