IBM announced that they won't be manufacturing DASD, but they will keep
selling it.

But IBM has already announced that they won't be manufacturing their disks
anymore - Hitachi will own 70% of IBM's drive manufacturing. So now there
apparently won't be ANY companies offering IBM disks for iSeries.
