This doesn't directly answer your question, but there have been some free
commands developed to start/stop WAS servers.  You can get them here:

Hello all,

In my startup program that run after each IPL, I need to run the
following 2 QSHELL commands:

cd /QIBM/ProdData/WebASAdv/bin
strwasinst -instance CASCSTAG

I know that there is a CMD parameter with the STRQSH command but it
accept just one command. And I checked, when I issue a second STRQSH, it
as forgotten the first one (the directory is reset).

Any suggestions?
