Thank you, that did the trick - my first *IP ipds cat 5 (been twinax cards prior) -----Original Message----- From: midrange-l-admin@midrange.com [mailto:midrange-l-admin@midrange.com]On Behalf Of Tykodi, Paul Sent: Tuesday, April 30, 2002 4:32 PM To: midrange-l@midrange.com Subject: Re: Lexmark T622 ipds over IP very close to working - but Dear Mark, In order to keep the number of parameters in the OS/400 Create Device Printer (CRTDEVPRT) command to a reasonable number, IBM offers a supplementary set of configuration parameters just for IPDS printers that are stored in a PSF Configuration Object. The command to create the object is CRTPSFCFG. You will find one of the parameters that you can set in the PSF Configuration Object is the release timer. The default value is *NOMAX which means the iSeries host always keeps the TCP socket open while the writer is started. This is the condition you mentioned where the iSeries never releases the printer. When you change the value in the the release timer parameter to *SEC15, *SEC30, or a number of whole minutes, the OS/400 operating system will close the TCP socket connection to the printer when there are no spool files in the ready status in the queue and the timer expires. The writer will remain started and a new spool file entering the queue will cause OS/400 to reconnect the socket so that the file can be printed automatically. After you have created your PSF configuration object, you can link it to a printer device description through the User Defined Object field in the printer device description by specifying its name, library, and the object type *PSFCFG. In the Lexmark printer, you sometimes need to set its internal IPDS release timeout to a value 5 to 10 seconds greater than the iSeries based release timer value in order to have the protocol switching occur smoothly and the LAN jobs print as expected.
