Rich, Besides the other suggestions that have been offered, you might check to see if there were any changes to the firewall and/or proxy settings in the network. The 5 minute timeout delay might indicate that the data channel of the FTP session is being blocked. From the mainframe side have them specify passive mode to see if this helps.
