As far as I know you cannot access a system console with these switches.
Does any third party make a 5250 box in which the keyboard, monitor and
mouse can be user supplied and swapped with any PC?

I already access my 400's, in a non dedicated mode, remotely via VPN. That
wasn't the issue.

It was being able to access the PC's system console remotely. And, maybe
with a special 5250 box, the various iSeries' system consoles.

Rob:
Dou you mean to say gain access to all your server's console devices.
If you have a VPN connection to the network that your AS400s are on, you
should be able to connect to all of them now.

Thank you.

I was hoping that we could use this to get remote access to our servers.
Let's say that we have all of our servers hooked up to this. Then we
could use our VPN connection to access this device and control all of
the servers.

Some KVMs (the newer ones) are TCP addressable. Allowing the K, V & M to
be far away (ie. Toronto to Austin) from the servers, but generally the
switch is connected via a keyboard (K), video cable (V) and mouse cable
(M) to the servers locally. Locally generally means w/in a thousand or
so feet.

The ones we use are from Belkin
(http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatSectionView.process?Section_Id=56) but
there are a number of manufacturers.
