We did have a data problem (related to a disk failure) about 14-15 years ago. The disk failed, and we were not running checksum (predecessor to mirroring / RAID). We had to do a complete reload from our backups. AFTER we started checksum on our drives. Uh, the drives were not IBM drives. The drive manufacturer did add extra memory to our system and enough extra disks (for free) so we could start checksum and not suffer any performance hits. Since then, we've never lived without checksum, mirroring, or RAID. And a good UPS. And good backups. All of which are features that are mandatory in a commercial environment. --Paul E Musselman PaulMmn@ix.netcom.nospam.com
