And if they have to replace a drive, doesn't the serial number of the drive change regardless of the source - new IBM or used IBM? I think that is the most significant - stick with IBM drives. Here's a scary question. Will IBM take the machine back from lease if it is not under IBM maintenance? YEARS ago if we sold an old machine, and it was not under maintenance, we would have to pay an IBMer to come out here and bless the machine that it was certifiable for maintenance. Supposedly this was to stop people from loading a machine with bad drives and sending it back. Honestly the last time I had to deal with reselling was some old S/36's years ago. I am out of most of that kind of chores here at work now. And at that time we would resell to numerous brokers, and were using third party maintenance.
