Hello Mike, looks like a "keep alive" problem to me. Watch out for spoofing, if it is configured on your ciscos, it is fooling the AS/400 system in not sending the "keep alive" polling packets to the remote 5494 controllers, it just tells the AS/400 it did, but it doesn't put them on the WAN line. So the AS/400 is no longer able to know about the exact status of the remote sites. This especially comes up in periods with low traffic or some (longer) pauses between the data-packets.
