My only recent direct experience with trying to give money to IBM was from a little over a year ago when I tried to buy ObjectREXX for Windows from them. Heavens! What a horrendous process! Why do they even advertise things for sale if they have no intention of selling them except by accident? To make a long story (approx 3 months and I do not want to go into details about the ludicrous hoops I had to jump through simply to get the order actually ordered) short, I eventually got a letter from them stating "We will be unable to ship the merchandise listed below. If this does not meet your timing requirements, you may cancel your order and receive a prompt refund by calling toll-free (800) IBM CALL". Hmmm... I thought that over and read on: "If we do not hear from you before we ship the merchandise, we will assume that you have agreed to this shipment delay." This was followed by the line item listing of my order which consisted of the single item. And that was followed by "Remember, if you want the merchandise, it is not necessary to call." I put the letter aside to think it all over for a few days. I wasn't concerned, since they weren't going to bill my credit card until shipment anyway. But just short of a week later, my order shipment arrived and all has been well ever since. I believe it all must be some kind of test. I'm not sure if I passed or failed.
