This is a multipart message in MIME format. -- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] Not a clue - I'm getting the info 2nd hand (possibly 3rd) and am just passing the requests/answers back and forth. But let's look at a couple of 'real-life' scenarios. On my Integrated Netfinity Server (OWTNIN*), suppose that I have Win2000 installed, with Client Access, pcAnywhere and a modem. On a 'regular' PC I can dial into the pcAnywhere and access the 400 thru the Client Access. How can I do that with Integrated setup? Or - suppose that I currently have a PC-based medical billing package which dials into a clearinghouse to transfer data. For consolidation purposes, I want to move that package to my Integrated Netfinity Server (OWTNIN*), and still be able to do the modem file transfers. How? * = or whatever the name is now Tom Hightower Solutions, Inc http://www.simas.com "Andy Nolen-Parkhouse" <aparkhouse@attbi.com> Sent by: midrange-l-admin@midrange.com 04/03/02 03:14 PM Please respond to midrange-l To: <midrange-l@midrange.com> cc: Subject: RE: How do I access AS400 comm resource from PCServer card? Tom, I haven't seen a response on this one. I'm assuming that your customer is referring to a Comm Line in the normal PC sense, an asynchronous port to which a modem could be attached. The text below is from the Redbook "Consolidating Windows 2000 Servers in iSeries: An Implementation Guide for the IBM Integrated xSeries Server for iSeries" 10.1.10.1 OS/400 shared devices The following hardware is shared between the iSeries and the Integrated xSeries Server: . Disk storage: The Integrated xSeries Server uses iSeries disks, which can provide greater reliability and improved performance compared to PC disks. . CD-ROM drive: The Integrated xSeries Server shares the CD-ROM drive with the iSeries. . Tape devices: The Integrated xSeries Server shares tape devices with the iSeries. No comm resources are mentioned; based upon my limited understanding, I do not believe that it is supported. Assuming TCP/IP networking, it would be possible to establish an IP connection using an OS/400 PPP line and then route traffic from Windows through that connection. Do you know what they want to do?
