HP LaserJet PCL specification specifies NON-print zone of 50 pixels all way 
around edges.

Many third party emulations takes care of adjusting character pitch.
HP PCL5 Horizontal Motion Index command is manipulated to allow you to print
all 85 characters at slightly more that 10 cpi.

Benefit of this approach is that you need not change your application.
It is totally transparent to you.
