Blatant product suggestion in response to stated need--

I recently did preliminary development of such a product for Centerfield
Technology, called disk/HUNTER. You can see it on their site,
www.centerfieldtechnology.com. Look at the insure/Tools link. It regularly
checks disk free space. If reduction exceeds your configured threshold,
messages and/or reports are generated that attempt to tell you what jobs
and users and objects caused the excess usage.
