I've been staying out of the documentation discussion, since my opinion has
been stated fine by others (yeah, unusual for me to stay out, but I'm trying
to be more bandwidth-friendly).  But I actually really like the command
diagrams.  I just duplicated that technique for my own reference manual, and
it works great.  It allows you to quickly specify all the special options
for a command in a relatively concise form.

I suppose it's extra overhead, but it's something I think they do very well.
