Pedro,

The AS/400 commands follow the standard Verb, noun, or verb, adjective,
noun. Now you wanted to "retrieves the status of a device". First of all
in the common verb, RTV which is short for retrieve.
You could type in
RTV* <enter>
and you would get a list of all retrieve commands.

Now, let's say you've actually worked with devices before. You may have
used any of the following commands: WRKCFGSTS or VRYCFG.
Or maybe you tried the menus
GO MAIN
6. Communications
1. Communication status
3. Work with device status
Work with Configuration Status (WRKCFGSTS)

Then you would see that the command you are looking for is RTVCFGSTS.
