Checking on that. I had wondered about that. We had some sort of power hit
over the weekend (clocks flashing but nothing the AS/400 noticed) so
terminal might have been down.

You can still start a writer but it would give the "device not available"
message with the R, C options... At least on 4230's, etc. (?)

Subject: Re: Starting Printer Writer(s) Question

Was the terminal powered on when the system IPL'd ?

...Neil

Hi Folks,

Had something "strange" happen.

I added a new printer to the system Friday. It is an HP LaserJet 4+
attached
to a Decision Data terminal. It works fine and of course I had to start
the
printer writer up the first time.

Well we IPL on Sunday morning and the user of this printer just contacted
me
and said he could not get anything to print.

I checked and there was no printer writer started...

I started the printer writer and everything is fine now.

My question is why this did not start automatically like all of the other
printer we have ?

In our Startup Program we have:

QSYS/RTVSYSVAL SYSVAL(QSTRPRTWTR) RTNVAR(&STRWTRS)
IF COND(&STRWTRS = '0') THEN(GOTO CMDLBL(NOWTRS))

And System Value QSTRPRTWTR (Start print writers at IPL) is 1=Start

I have also checked the device description and Online at IPL is *YES

What else can I check ?

TIA !

Chuck
