Jerry, I think you're right that when you're hooked up via VPN, you belong to that network for the duration. I've had that happen to me here when I work from home. Fortunately, the printer is close by, and if I need to print something locally when I'm connected to a client site, I switch my printer connection to parallel from the JetDirect box and forge ahead.
