I have a WAN through RoadRunner (cable modem; non-static IP address) as well as AT&T WorldNet and Earthlink dial-up accounts. These weasels are continually pinging your connection to see if you're still connected. Even with a business account, I was getting whacked by RoadRunner every hour in spite of their "published" standard of two hours. I know because I'm getting murdered in CODE/400; my problems always start with a "TCP: connection reset by peer" message showing up between four and seven minutes past every hour. Their solution? Get a fixed IP address for double the cost. My solution involved suggesting where they could put their fixed IP address---preferably sideways. I experience plenty of connection problems related to ISP's; when I take my laptop to my office with a LAN, it's extremely rare to come up against a communications or CAX problem. If you want an eye-opener, go to www.zonelabs.com and download the free version of Zone Alarm. I was amazed by the number of times ISP's (another others) came knocking on my PC's door. -----Original Message----- From: midrange-l-admin@midrange.com [mailto:midrange-l-admin@midrange.com]On Behalf Of James Rich Sent: Friday, March 01, 2002 7:02 PM To: midrange-l@midrange.com Subject: RE: Client Access disconnecting Has anyone experienced these drops that *were not* using client access?
