That idea came to my mind at the beginning of this thread.  I tried to
imagine what IBM would think of it.  If OS/400 ran on Intel servers, would
it be able to compete against Windows, Linux, and others?

After OS/2 failed to make money, IBM seems to have conceded the Intel
operating system market to Microsoft and others.  Now the focus of IBM is on
tools, middleware, and services.

It's pretty clear there's a big market for low cost server operating
systems.  But it appears, that's not where IBM wants to compete.
