I am careful to define them the same way in the target of the passing as in where they are coming from. Now there are limits how large a numeric value can be depending on the programming language. RPG can be up to 30 digits with up to 9 after the decimal place. But watch out ... what you are passing is X positions. For example, you could have something defined with different number decimal positions but same length of positions in what is passed & you not get an error condition.
