Richard, If this is an interactive job try doing the DSPJOB, or sysreq-3. Then look at open files. Now, you know how people got hot to trot to blow by the activation group and see I/O details by hitting F14 or applying the ptf? Well don't. Make sure your override applies to the correct activation group - you might have to use option 18 from the dspjob menu.
