Dave,

1) Get IIS inside the firewall, it's the easiest, but you know that, so...

2) Punch a hole in the firewall for all the required ports, but ONLY from
the IP of the remote IIS box. This would work, but still has a problem with
IP spoofing.

3) Establish a VPN connection from the remote site through your firewall to
a VPN server inside the firewall. This is the best approach because all the
traffic is then encrypted and secure. You could even limit the VPN
connection to one that originates on the remote IP for added security.

4) SOAP, you don't need e-mail. Just open a single port (probably, but not
necessarily 80) to the web server inside the firewall that will handle the
web services. The remote IIS box would then be a consumer of these web
services.
