NIC reset question -- MIDRANGE-L

We are having some minor power problems today and have discovered a problem
with our NICs. When the power comes back on, we have to take down TCP and
then reset the NIC, then start TCP again. The line has a message of recovery
pending (I believe). How come the system won't just reconnect like PCs do?
Is there a way to get it to?
