Assuming that you are on Software Subscription, why not just order the
upgrade, take out the Client Access CD, and leave the box somewhere
safe.  The only difference between V5R1 now and V5R1 later is the
cumulative PTF CD(s).  IBM's books will show you as having V5R1
installed but that shouldn't be too big an issue.

Or are there charges associated with ordering an OS upgrade through your
business partner?
