How many DBAs do you have writing your business applications? I suspect there are far mroe RPG programmers writing business applications than tehre are DBAs, and perhaps that's the issue. Obscure SQL syntax is "normal" for a good DBA, but from what I understand, there aren't all that many good DBAs. There are LOTS and LOTS of good RPG programmers.
