Some analogies work part way. If I want a new car, I do not phone FORD HQ or other major manufacturer ... I visit a local dealer & verify that they do have tech support, I check what is on the lot & I look at brochures that chart features & prices. Many great videos have been created that show mixtures of products working on same IBM platform. A BP can say that we can install all of this for you. A place to go to see the videos, on-line even, is simple. From a menu we say we interested in THE SOLUTION for ____ our situation is ... chose individual/business/government industry within that / size of enterprise, then we look at some video demos of alternative solutions & say what we most interested in & are linked to the BPs in our geographic area that implement that solution mixture. Or we say WE KNOW WHAT WE WANT ... iNOTES or DOMINO or INTERNET APPLIANCE or whatever, although we might not know 100% of the particulars & again, the technology is there to give us same kinds of choices I get when I walk into an auto dealer showroom to narrow down what is right for my tastes & budget ... and in the IBM analogy, what BPs are in my geographic area or serve my area.
