Andy, Did your vendor commit that this would work? Below is a quote from the V5R1 System Handbook: <start quote> The console on LAN options require a dedicated LAN adapter. A #0367 Operations Console PCI Cable will also be added to the order by the marketing configurator. One #0367 Operations Console PCI Cable is required for Console on LAN. <end quote> I believe that the LAN console requires a dedicated Ethernet or Token Ring connection. It cannot be used for normal operations. I think that this has been well documented. I wish I had better news, but I don't think that you will get this to work under V5R1. If the direct cable functions, you may need to uninstall the Ethernet card as a console and use the cable function.
