I agree with Jeff on his two points: (1) Speed, substance, usefulness matters. (2) He /is/ strange :). Professional users want functionality; hollow "good looks" only get in the way. Look how long we've survived with SEU and SDA (we'll leave RLU out); that's beauty. Searching, archiving, links/cross references, and message management matter to me. If you want to do flash, there are lots of people willing to pay for it. If any professional user's every been so impressed by a site's flash and fluff that it's triggered a buying decision, I hope that person will cross-post the URL of the site. Then I'll have my crew lash me to the mast, put wax in their ears, wear blindfolds, and take away my credit cards so I can be seduced by the empty intellectual calories of one more Shockwave download. But it's more likely I'll be the victim of an alien abduction (if it hasn't happened already). -----Original Message----- From: midrange-l-admin@midrange.com [mailto:midrange-l-admin@midrange.com]On Behalf Of Jeff Crosby Sent: Saturday, January 12, 2002 1:07 PM To: midrange-l@midrange.com Subject: Re: *** ADMIN: Web designer Wanted David Gibbs wrote: > With the new year upon us, I think it's time for a redesign of the > MIDRANGE.COM web site. > > I'd like to make the sites a bit more snazzy, easier to navigate, more > professional looking, etc. I am not offering to help as I have no web design experience period. But I do want to offer my 2 cents worth. I have no interest in snazziness, or fluff, or "wow way cool" in a web site whatsoever. I am interested in substance, speed, easy navigation, and general usefulness. It could be entirely text with no graphics whatsoever as far as I am concerned as long as it provides answers or information on what I am looking for. If using graphics helps in that regard, good. Using graphics for style only doesn't interest me. Yes, I'm strange, but that's the way I feel. -Jeff _______________________________________________ This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/cgi-bin/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@midrange.com Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
