Assuming I find the first post in the thread, I can then on the very bottom
of the page click on the next post in the thread, but if I get distracted &
read some other topic connection, I can get back to the thread index & pick
up what I did not read.

I do get to a lot of posts by using the search engine on topics & I do lurk
in lists I am not subscribing to, so often the first that I open is not the
first in the thread, but by navigating to bottom of page I can link to the
others in the thread.
