I think the OS/400 function known as Image Print Transform (described in the
IBM Redbook AS/400 Printing V - sg242160 available for free at
http://www.redbooks.ibm.com) would help you to accomplish your stated
application goals. The function is described in Chapter 7 of the redbook
referenced above.
