Useful Commands & Menus ==================== CALL QCMD then F10 This gives you expanded command line with running log of your actions & extremely powerful options & flexibility ... perhaps I should do whole page of FAQ on the neat stuff we can do with this. GO ASSIST F21 on many standard IBM commands (look at spool reports, messages etc.) to select assistance levels *BASIC = for Newbies *INTERMEDIATE = most users *ADVANCED = expert beyond belief Command Structure ----------------------------- Verb Noun etc. There are standard abbreviations for each function, combined e.g. WRKCFGSTS verb = work with noun = configuration etc. = status Any time we need "work with" the verb is ALWAYS WRK and it is always the first part of the command ... you can key WRK* & enter to get a list of these & the number will blow you away. The asterisk on the end is called a "wild card" meaning any value there. You may see references with asterisk in front like *ALL *LIBL *NO that has special IBM defined meanings Commonly used verbs are DSP Display information without changing it PRT Print WRK Work With (combination of display print change other options) Common Nouns MSG messages USR user SPLF spooled file print-outs JOBQ Job Queue You can do WRKMSG* to get at a list of all commands that start with those letters, or go CMDxxx to get all commands that have xxx in them such as GO CMDVRY Vary on & off specific devices GO CMDCFG Configuration GO CMDLF Logical Files On your PC do you have ? 400 Operations Navigator or Management Central It is possible that this stuff is on your 400 but not on the particular PC you using GO MAJOR will take you to a menu where you can look at commands by subject, by verb, by other criteria MacWheel99@aol.com (Alister Wm Macintyre) (Al Mac)
