Can you elaborate on one point? You show an example SELECT statement but ask 
the question about "the report". Can you describe what you use to jump from 
SELECT to "the report"?

That is, it might not be reasonably possible to omit a column if you're using 
some default means of printing the result set; but it might be easy to modify 
the program (or the query form or whatever is doing the printing).

For example, using a Query Manager form, you might use the 'Edit Column 
Formatting' option to set Usage to "OMIT" for that column.
