The articles recently about Internet security are interesting and eye
opening, I particularly liked the Pulpit article re TCP/MS.
The problem as I see it is not one of Internet security, but one of the
corporate world placing all their eggs in one Internet basket.
In the past, it was important to provide a sceure fallback to your
communications network, either via phone transmission, or other means.
Lately it seems, it's the Internet or nothing, and" Oh my God we have a
virus, we'll have to be down for days clearing it up and restoring
data!"
The other problem is, an assumption in many areas, that
wisdom in the field of information technology will roll forward
and we will gain from the decades of their problems and ability to
overcome.
Wisdom and experience it seems, retires, or changes professions, simply
because the "NEW" generation know all there is to know about computers
and security, and there's nothing to worry about.
"Not to worry about hijackers, the chances of that kind of scenario are
too remote to debate"
Common sense often takes a back seat to corporate profits...
