It's the same thing as Intel vs. Apple. Of course the reliability and service on the AS/400 are also very important. But the most important thing is that it gets the job done for you, using tested and respected software solutions with a community behind them. The person who is the position to spend $100,000 or more on a solution is also in the position to lose $20,000 a day if his computer system is unreliable or the software fails. If it breaks and you can't fix it for a week, you've lost the $100,000 - or more if your best customers go elsewhere. No one can protect against all business interruptions, and no software or hardware is perfect in this respect. Shouldn't your organization be using the most reliable machine and software to minimize the possibilities of loss, while using the best software to maximize your competitive advantage? That';s what I would say to them. (Laugh - I don't sell applications or boxes - I sell archiving solutions to AS/400 users - that run on a PC!)
