When you buy an AS/400, are you told specifically (because no one really reads the fine print) that your machine is governed at the software level? This, to me, seems like a marketing ploy. You buy CPU. But, they split it up between batch and interactive. And, it just so happens that interactive costs more. That's like buying a car and paying extra if you want to be able to use it to drive your kids to soccer practice instead of just going to the store with it. It doesn't sit well in my gut. A lot of their practices are leading this way. One other big one is no longer being able to buy just PDM, or just the RPG compiler for a set price. Instead, you have to buy the whole developement kit which in the end will cost you more that just the pieces you wanted. On the outside it looks like a great deal, but when you get down and dirty, you're forced to buy things you don't need. Hmmm.. Kinda like buying an OS that includes a browser and other software as well... Where have I seen that before? Brad www.bvstools.com
