EBCDIC goes all alpha A-Z then all digits 1-9 ASCII goes all digits 1-9 then all alpha A-Z there are also some special characters in there. In AS/400 programming languages & utilities there is the capability of changing this ... check the documentation on "collating sequence." This used to be charted in an appendix to the RPG programming manual - it might be in the Programmer's Reference Handbook.
