M Hello Dan, You wrote: >So it looks like I need to write a UPS monitoring program. Confirm? Yes. >So what happens when the system does not have CPM and there is no UPS >monitoring program? Is it a "hard" shutdown? Yes. The system will wait for the amount of time specified in QUPSDLYTIM and then inform all jobs to end at the next MI instruction. It will wait about 30-45 seconds for that to happen and then power off (not PWRDWNSYS) the system. This is called a controlled shutdown but that is relative only to the shutdown caused by pulling the plug. Some instructions, such as index build, are long running and will not complete in that time. Damaged objects may (probably will) ensue. If the UPS signals low power during the delay time the system immediately starts the controlled shutdown. In all cases except where a UPS monitoring program successfully completes a PWRDWNSYS the system will be terminated abnormally. The next IPL will perform abnormal end recovery steps.
