Hello Dan,
the biggest gotcha is that you _seem_ to loose folder access.
CA Express has not built in functionality to access the AS/400
folder system anymore (several background processes were
needed in V3 for this which often lead to lack of stability of the
PC system), so they _invented_ a new thing called Netserver.
This is, simply spoken, an AS/400 that talks to the clients like
an NT server box, or technically, like this, the AS/400 is
capable of using SMB packets to announce its services to SMB-
aware clients (all MS-Windows networks clients).
SMB is Server Messaging Blocks, this is native NT-language,
so you don't need anything special on the PC side to access
shared folders / IFS folders you made accessible on your AS/400.
To define those shares on your AS/400, you need, you guessed it,
Operations Navigator, configure "Netserver", define your own
shared folders or print queues and access them through your
MS Windows network client. No definition or CA on the PC
needed for this, you go to connect network drives in explorer
and there you are.
OK, I was a little bit too enthusiastic here because _sometimes_
you don't see the name of that server in your network neighborhood,
but simply going for \\as400name\yourshare does it and the drive
mapping appears. So you somtimes have to look up (or to
remember) the names of your shares, thats all.
