Thanks!! RE: recs with invalid data

Thanks to everyone who responded.

I was planning on using Wrkdbf, but was able to
solve the problem without it.

I had been trying to use an OpnQryF and RPG program
to select the guilty record and to delete it.  I couldn't
seem to get the rec deleted using this method until I realized
that a portion of the key had the invalid data.  So I ran the
OpnQryF select a rec based on a substring of the key value, and was able
to delete the rec.
i.e.
the key is bytes long, there was invalid data in byte #1.
I changed the OpnQryF to select the rec based on bytes 2 - 8 of the key,
rather
then the whole key.

We have a utility called SuperZap, from DYNAX RESOURCES, INC. that I use for
just such an emergency.  This is back from 1982 and the S/38 but it still
works fine.  Check on your system to see if you have such a beast around.  I
don't think they market it anymore and I couldn't find much on the company
via Google.

No, I already am entering the key value.
DFU trys to bring up the entire record, as it would
normally do.  It then tells me it found invalid data.
I try F23, and get the message I described.
DFU won't do the job.

I did try this out before posting by corrupting my data
using WRKDBF so I know it works..

You must enter the key of the record to be deleted.
Simply hitting F23 on its own will give the message
you describe.
