I got this message last Friday afternoon when NOTHING should have been
happening and QHST show basically nothing but this message for the time
frame immediately preceding and following it:

09/21/01 16:30:27 CPF87D7 (Diagnostic) Cannot automatically select
virtual device.
Cause . . . . . : The VTM/FM cannot automatically select a virtual
device. One of the following most likely occurred: the QAUTOVRT value
was exceede or the device type specified for creation was not correct
for this system.Recovery . . . : Please see messages previously
listed in the job log to determine the exact error. Most likely, you
will be able to correct this problem by doing one of the following:
increase the allowed number of automatically selected virtual
devices (the QAUTOVRT system value) or specify a different device
type to be created for the virtual device. Aft making the correction,
try the request again. Technical description
. . . . . . . . : This message is sent by the server VTM/FM XPF
module when it is not able to select a virtual device. One of the
following most likely occurred: the server reached the limit specified
by the QAUTOVRT system value, or the device type selected was not valid
for the system.

Does anyone have any idea what the heck this is ?

Thanks,

Chuck
