Anybody using this feature? If equipped with this feature, in the case
of an immediate power loss, does SPCN still kick in? Is the IPL it
performs significantly faster than a normal IPL, for example an IPL that
occurs after a PWRDWNSYS?

>From the V4R4 Backup & Recover guide:

Many systems are equipped with a feature that is called System Power
Control Network. This feature provides a function called Continuously
Powered Main Store. If your system has this feature, a battery provides
sufficient power to shut down the system and maintain the contents of
memory for up to 2 days after a power loss. In many cases, this can
significantly reduce the amount of time the system requires to perform
an initial program load (IPL) after a power loss.

You can use the continuously powered main store feature along with an
uninterruptible power supply. If the system detects that the
uninterruptible power supply can no longer provide sufficient power to
the system, the continuously powered main store feature takes control,
shuts down the system, and preserves the contents of memory for up to 2
days.

When you have this feature, the system automatically initiates an IPL
after power is restored.
