I'd do all of this from within Operations Navigator. Not only can you see and change the status of all servers, but you can view the joblogs of the server jobs to see errors (assuming you have the authority). Also, using right-mouse-button on the AS/400 icon gives <Verify connection...> as a pop-up menu option; this runs CWBPING for you. Then you can go down the nodes in the expanded tree below the AS/400 icon to gather a lot of info about how your database is seen from that PC.
