We have had that occur several times.  Here is a list of things we check:

On the PC:

1) valid ip address (for your network)
2) valid subnet mask
3) valid gateway address

Even though we use a dhcp server to provide ip addresses, subnet mask, and
gateways to the pc, we have had part of the information get corrupted.  When you
release / renew the ip address, everything would work just fine.

On the Network:
1) possible beaconing hub
2) make sure all default gateways are configured correctly (switches, routers,
etc.)
3) if you have multiple PVCs, make sure they are ALL working

We have had all 3 problems on our network and they're rough to track down.
