Hello Phil,

As I understand TCP/IP logic, this must be the address corresponding to the net
you are communicating with (or "asking from"  and "answering to", like you 
prefer).
This is in terms of routing also the shortest route with the lowest (internal) 
metric, too.
As I normally make use of multihomed systems, I do communication between
totally different segments, which only share services on this one mulithomed 
host.
Think of a multihomed host like a chameleon: once it belongs to the first
net, the other time to the second ...
You cannot assign two addresses of the same net to a single interface, so this
question does not lead to a "problem" for me at all.
So what was your specific problem , then ?
