The slow start up could be because LPR requires that you configure the 
AS400 domain and host names (this info is sent in LPR control file). If 
they are not configured, then LPR performs a "reverse DNS lookup" which can 
take a long time. There was an informational APAR for V3.1 (II08864) that 
described AS400 configuration for LPR.
