        The application mix we run makes great use of Query.

        I was thinking that I would have to install SMP into each partition,
which could potentially have multiple processors, and was glad you confirmed
this.

When moving processor resource from one partition to another. How would SMP
handle the dynamic addition and subtraction of processors at V5R1?

Would it be the next timeslice of a job running that the SMP would be
enabled for that job. Or, would a job already running not benefit from the
addition of more processors?

Does anyone knows of a web page or redbook that discusses this at V5R1 ?

Michael,

Each partition will have its own copy of the OS.  You will only need to
install SMP in the partition with multiple processors.  You only need
SMP if you wish to devote multiple processors in that partition to a
single database query.

What is the business use of the machine?  There are some benefits to not
allowing database work to exceed a single processor if other tasks need
to be accomplished concurrently.  Is this a data warehouse of some kind?
