Yes. Watch out for the spools. 1.5 million here, took 11 hours on a 12-way
740 to get through that part.

I don't know Pete, our systems group did the upgrade. They're blaming the
extended downtime on the 300,000 spool files on the system. They may have
just done the hot site box, figured "Hey, they're the same..." and so asked
for six hours again.

Have you got links to those conversion estimate jobs handy?

Our systems guys are pretty darn good, but nobody's infallible or perfect
and a pointer to those jobs might save them from this kind of flack next
time.

You should have heard the user chorus when they got the email about
tonight's 6 hour downtime for the hardware upgrade (2 iStars to 4 sStars)!
It would be funny if I didn't know how the ops guys felt. It's tough to
take that kind of downtime in a 24x7x52 casino environment. It took the
system away from 9 casinos and 8 hotels.

I'm just warning folks, do your homework. And by all means watch the
hiper's. That disk utilization bug is MEAN. Even after the hiper's are
applied we're still climbing... just more slowly. An IPL of our development
box last night got back 20% of 429gb. There's still a hole somewhere.

In each case did you run the conversion estimate jobs for Spool files,
User Profiles, and QADB* files, and how close were they to your total
time to convert. There is a lot to estimate for going to V5R1, you
have the regular replace LIC, OS/400, & LPPs plus the above conversions.
